Competition rules

This document regulates the rules and conditions of the Hack Kosice Marathon competition (hereinafter also referred to as the “competition”) on the website of Hack Slovakia, the announcer of the competition (hereinafter referred to as the “statute”).

II. Purpose and subject of the competition

  1. The purpose of the competition is to provide an opportunity for those interested in IT to test their skills, learn something new and motivate people, preferably Slovak students, to a deeper interest in information technology.

  2. The subject of the competition is the solution of IT tasks. The handover of the solution is solved using the Discord platform.

III. Competition deadline

  1. The competition lasts from March 29, 2021 from 12:00. (time is given in the time zone Europe/Bratislava) until 4.6.2021, 23:59. No later than June 4, 2021 inclusive, it is possible to participate in the competition in accordance with the conditions specified in the statute.

IV. Conditions for participation in the competition

  1. The competition is open to any natural person who has reached the age of 15 and meets all the conditions set out in this Statute (hereinafter also referred to as “competitor”).

  2. A competitor must not be in an employment relationship or in another relationship similar to the employment relationship in relation to the announcer of the competition, nor persons close to the persons listed in this paragraph in the sense of the definition of a close person in § 116 of Act no. 40/1964 Coll. Civil Code as amended.

  3. A competitor will participate in the competition and is included in the list of competitors if he registers for the competition in the manner specified on the Discord platform on the Hack Kosice server (hereinafter referred to as Discord).

  4. A competitor is entitled to any number of prizes within the competition.

  5. A competitor who fraudulently interferes with the competition mechanism in order to obtain a prize, without which he would not otherwise have won any prize or been able to participate in the competition, will be excluded from the competition.

  6. If a person who does not meet any of the conditions under the statute joins the competition, he is automatically excluded from the competition and has no right to the prize.

  7. If no person participates in the competition or none of the competitors meets the conditions for participation in the competition in accordance with the statute, no person will win.

V. The course of the competition

  1. The competition takes place in five rounds. Each round lasts 2 weeks. During the round, competitors have the opportunity to work on solving the assigned task and submit their solutions using the system integrated on the Discord.

  2. Each task has an open and a closed part. Competitors can solve and submit these parts separately and are rewarded with points in the ranking for each part. The amount of points gained in the open part depends on the evaluation by the announcer of the competition. The amount of the point gain in the closed part depends on the correctness of the submission and the speed from the time of publication of the task, which are also conditions determined by the announcer of the competition.

  3. All assignments and the current ongoing ranking of the competition will be published on the organizer’s website during the competition and available for display in Discord. The delivery of solutions takes place exclusively on the Discord according to the instructions available there.

  4. The entry of both parts of the task will still be displayed on the first Monday of the round at 12:00. That is, on dates: 29.3.2021, 12.4.2021, 26.4.2021, 10.5.2021, 24.5.2021.

  5. The handover of the open part closes on Friday of the second week of the round at 11:59 p.m. That is, on dates: 9.4.2021, 23.4.2021, 7.5.2021, 21.5.2021, 4.6.2021. Submission of the closed part of the task is possible for the entire duration of the competition.

  6. After the transfer is completed, the solution will be evaluated. The initial evaluation is carried out by the competition announcer within 24 hours. Subsequently, the first 5 projects are moved to the evaluation of the audience on the social networks of the organizer (part VI. Point 6) and to the evaluation by the task creator - partner of the competition (part VI. Point 5).

  7. The results of the round after the evaluation by the organizers and the evaluation by the audience will be announced on Sunday, the second week of each round at 21:00. That is, on dates: 11.4.2021, 25.4.2021, 9.5.2021, 23.5.2021, 4.6.2021. The results will be available on the competition announcer’s website and social networks and on Discord. The results of the evaluation by the competition partner will be available within 7 days after the publication of the results from the announcer of the competition.

  8. Ranking points may also be awarded by the competition announcer for the fulfillment of various ancillary activities. The terms of reference and conditions of these activities will always be available in time on the website and social media of the announcer of the competition as well as on Discord. If points can be earned for a given activity, it will always be specified under what conditions and in what amount these points will be awarded.

VI. Prizes in the competition, the amount of prizes and their taxation

  1. By fulfilling the conditions of the competition, it is possible to win the following prizes:

    • 1st place prize (hereinafter referred to as “main prize”),
    • 2nd place prize (hereinafter referred to as “prize no. 2”),
    • Prize for 3rd place (hereinafter referred to as “prize no. 3”).
    • 4 sponsorship prizes (hereinafter referred to as “sponsored prizes”).
    • Prizes for public voting

  2. The value of the main prize is 1000,- EUR (in words: one thousand euros).

  3. The value of the prize no. 2 is 350,- EUR (in words: three hundred and fifty euros).

  4. The value of the prize no. 3 is 150,- EUR (in words: one hundred and fifty euros).

  5. Sponsored prizes – prizes are collected exclusively by the competition partners without the intervention of the competition announcer.

  6. Prizes for public voting – a package of promotional items with the brand of the announcer of the competition

  7. Pursuant to the provisions of Act no. 595/2003 Coll. on income tax as amended monetary and non-monetary winnings in the amount of over 350.00 EUR (in words: three hundred and fifty EUR) is subject to income tax and is subject to a contribution to public health insurance within the meaning of Act No. 580/2004 Coll. on health insurance as amended. The Income Tax Act determines which winnings and prizes are fully exempt from tax (eg received winnings up to 350 euros), which are partially exempt from tax (eg if the win exceeds 350 euros, the tax base will include its value above 350 euros), as well as the method of taxation and who is responsible for taxation – whether the winner or the announcer of the competition.

VII. Awards

  1. Main prize, prize no. 2 and prize no. 3 are won by the competitors who are in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of the ranking respectively after the end of the competition, i.e. on 4.6.2021.

  2. The prize for public voting will be awarded to the competitor who has received the most votes on the social media of the announcer of the competition. The vote will take place at the end of each round in the manner indicated on the social media.

  3. The Sponsored prize has the right to be awarded by the competition partner to any competitor who has participated in his round.

  4. Awarding of competitors who have met all the conditions for participation in the competition in accordance with the statute and won prizes – the main prize, prize no. 2 or price no. 3. (hereinafter also referred to as “winner”) will take place no later than 14 days from the date of the end of the competition in accordance with Article III. statute, i.e. to 18.6.2020.

  5. The evaluation of the fulfillment of the conditions in terms of the statute and the awarding of the winners will be performed by three employees of the announcer of the competition.

  6. One winner of the main prize, one winner of prize no. 2 and one winner of prize no. 3. will be awarded. Each competitor will be placed in the ranking only once.

  7. In the event that the awarded winners do not meet any of the conditions set out in this statute as a substitute, the next competitor in the ranking will be considered.

  8. The awarded winners will be contacted via the Discord platform regarding the prize won, within 3 days from the end of the competition. The award ceremony will take place at the place and time agreed between the announcer and the winner.

  9. In the event that the winner does not agree to the awarding of the prize, rejects the prize, does not meet any of the conditions under this statute, or the winner can not be contacted within 5 working days of receiving the invitation, the winner loses the right to win and the prize will be offered to the substitute. If even the drawn substitute does not agree with the awarding of the prize or rejects the prize or the substitute does not meet any of the conditions under this statute or can not be contacted within 5 working days of receiving the invitation, the prize will be forfeited in favor of the announcer of the competition.

  10. The competitor has no legal right to win and it is not possible to enforce it through the courts.

VIII. Privacy

  1. Each competitor shall provide his personal data to the extent necessary to enable him to be unambiguously identified and subsequently contacted in the event of a prize. If the contestant is awarded as the winner and receives the prize, he/she may give the contest announcer express written consent, on the basis of which the contest announcer will subsequently be authorized to process the winner’s personal data, in particular to make and publish likenesses, audio-visual recordings the winner in an appropriate manner in the media, in connection with winning the competition. The granting of consent according to this point is not a condition for participation in the competition or for the award.

  2. The provisions of this Article relating to the winner shall apply mutatis mutandis to the substitute.

IX. Final provisions

  1. By participating in the competition, the competitor agrees to this statute. If a person does not agree with any condition or point in this statute, he/she may not participate in the competition.

  2. The announcer of the competition reserves the right to change the statute or even to cancel the competition at any time, especially in the event of damage. The announcer of the status or cancellation of the competition will be published by the announcer on its website or on the Facebook page of the announcer of the competition.

  3. In the event of any ambiguity regarding the conditions of the competition or the provisions of the statute, the announcer of the competition reserves the right to explain these ambiguities and, if applicable, change the statute in accordance with point i) of this Article of the statute.

  4. The announcer of the competition is not liable for any damages incurred by the winners or substitutes in connection with the prizes received.
